MINISTRY AT OUR SAVIOR’S
Feeding the hungry; giving something to drink to the thirsty; welcoming a stranger; clothing those who have no clothes; visiting the sick or imprisoned – Jesus said, “ . . . as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family (humanity), you did it to me.”
We offer the following opportunities to anyone who is interested (one does not have to be a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church) in allowing the love and salvation of God to flow through us to others in need. Invite your family and friends to participate! All warm, loving and compassionate hearts are welcome!
Friday, May 12 – Sunday, May 14: A retreat for singles, couples and families at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon, IL. An enjoyable get-away weekend with clean and comfortable lodges for accommodations, exceptional food and the opportunity to focus on God’s kingdom in a beautiful setting. Sunday, May 28: Bring your lawn chair for an outdoor worship experience at 10:00am under the front door canopy.
Saturday, June 3 – Wednesday, June 7: Join us for a mission trip to Living Waters Lutheran Church in Cherokee, NC. We will worship, help with the food pantry and share casual time/eating with our mission partners in the Great Smoky Mountains. They serve a largely Native American community so we have the opportunity to learn from and participate in their wonderful culture. Please contact Pastor Scot for more information.
Friday, June 23 – Blues In The Pews: An evening of listening to renowned regional and world Blues musicians/vocalist. This event’s proceeds will given to Lutheran World Relief for the overwhelming refugee crisis.
Wednesday, July 19 and Thursday, July 20: A unique Vacation Bible School opportunity.
Sunday, August 6: Outdoor worship service at 10:00am under the front door canopy. Bring your lawn chair.
Sunday, September 10: A new year of Christian Education for ages 3 – adult will begin on Sunday mornings.
Friday, September 15: We will sponsor a golf outing for our mission partner, Hearts In Motion. We would like to exceed last year’s gift of $3600.
Saturday, September 23: From 9 – 11am we will be packing meals, in Aurora, for Feed My Starving Children. It is typical to pack 30,000+ meals in one shift. Look for a sign-up in the weeks preceding.
Monday, October 2: A new year of Confirmation Classes begin for 8th and 9th graders. For information contact Pastor Scot.
Quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief from the efforts of our sewing group that meets every Tuesday morning.
Sunday, October 29: Celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

Our “Yarn Over Missions” ministry continues to make and distribute large numbers of hand-made items throughout the year.
For Thanksgiving and Christmas our Food Pantry will be distributing turkeys, hams or chickens to those in need in addition to their regular distributions times on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
In December we will be collecting gifts for children whose names we receive from Lutheran Social Services of Illinois as well as wrapping and distributing all the items received for Operation Christmas Child.
