…Our World

Sewing Friends

Quilts provide warmth, act like a sack for transporting goods to market, shield a person from the sun, or become a baby carrier tied around a mother’s back. The quilts we create are distributed by Lutheran World Relief (Our Mission Partner) to 35 countries around the globe to those whose lives have been affected by natural disasters, extreme poverty, or by violence in their country causing them to be refugees. This group meets Tuesdays (September through May) 8:30-11:30 am in the lower level of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Help is welcomed from women and men to cut fabric squares, pin, tie, and sew. No experience necessary.

Yarn Over Missions

A group of knitters and crocheters of all ages meets the third Saturday of each month at 10:30 am in Peter’s Hall. We knit/crochet hats, gloves, scarves, mittens, prayer shawls, sweaters, socks, fidget bears and twiddle muffs which are distributed to World Vision, Operation Gratitude, VITAS Healthcare, The Crisis Center for South Suburbia, The Southside Pregnancy Center, P.A.D.S., and others in need.  We accept yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and monetary donations (used to purchase Lion Brand Homespun yarn for prayer shawls).  We do not sell any of our items. Our meetings are very uplifting and inspiring as we work together each month. We have several persons who are unable to attend meetings but knit/crochet items and donate them to us. Thoughts and patterns are exchanged as well as helpful hints while each of the women works on the project of their choice. For those who desire to learn to knit and crochet – we will happily share our talents.  If you can hand-stitch, you can help create prayer patches. The demand is great so please share your skill and time.
